The Great Big Big George Book of Stories

'This book is about England's very first visitor from Outer Space . . .'

When Big George crash-lands into the middle of a medieval forest, he is completely out of his depth . . . until he makes friends with Tilly Miller, a small but very brave girl. Young readers will love the magic and humour of gentle Big George's adventures as he experiences British history.

Eric Pringle is the author of Big George, which was published by Bloomsbury in 2001. The book came out in paperback in March 2002. The sequel, Big George and the Seventh Knight, was published by Bloomsbury in August 2002.Born in Morpeth, Northumberland, the son of a farmer. Educated at King Edward VI School, Morpeth, and then at Nottingham University, where I took an Honours degree in English and American literature. Since that didn't give me any obvious career path other than teacher (which I decided I wasn't cut out for) I landed up in the City of London - and hated it. I then tried my hand at farming in Northumberland and Gloucestershire, following the romantic trail of A E Houseman's A Shropshire Lad poem, Summertime on Bredon Hill. I abandoned farming for a less physical but even less interesting job in Insurance. But at least Gloucestershire gave me the opportunity to meet my wife Pat, so it turned out to be romantic after all! I became an insurance salesman, which I didn't enjoy and abandoned it for a writer's life in the Forest of Dean. I discovered that I was cut out for this but not to make any money from it, and since we now had a son (David) and daughter (Susannah), money was becoming increasingly necessary. We moved to the Lake District, (Kendal) where I edited various specialist publications, always writing creatively in my spare time. Eventually success with Doctor Who (BBC) and other TV and radio dramas encouraged me to try writing full time again. This time it worked.

We moved to Herefordshire in Autumn 1999, closer to my wife's homeland. My hobbies include walking, music, travelling, reading, theatre and history.

Colin Paine is the illustrator of the Big George series. He has also illustrated The Conjuror's Cookbook series for Bloomsbury. Arthur's Tractoris his first picture book. Colin lives in Worthing, West Sussex.
