And A Superstar of Music was Born!
Born in 1981 (Yeah he is only 19), Craig David was destined for success. His natural vocal and writing talents began showing at a very young age. He started off writing in his bedroom, dreaming somehow he could get a record deal. Writing was completed in a scrapbook and with the aid of a Dictaphone he began composing tracks. At just age 14, he won a major UK song competition (which his mother insisted he enter!). From thereon, Craig spent time MC'ing on his local underground Radio Station, DJ'ed in some of the UK's biggest clubs and continued writing and recording more music.
Craig's music can be best described as a mixture of R&B, pop and British Dance, although early influences were (Thanks again to his mum) Terence Trent D'Arby, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
At fifteen, he began working in London. He wrote the B-Side for Damage and recorded a remake of a Human League song "Human". Working with Mark Hill (Artful Dodger), he added the lyrics to a Hill track and "Re-Rewind" was born. The song peaked at number 2 on the charts in the UK. This event lead to his signing with Westside. Soon came more success through singles such as "Fill me In" (which made him the Yongest British Male Solo Artist to have a number one), "Woman Trouble" and others.
Listening to the songs on the album, it is very easy to see that they are written from the heart, exploring the life of a young man dealing with a life of joy, pain, happiness and sorrow. His stories seem so real, so much like what I experience in my life today.
Craig will continue to be a talented Artist and will continue to sell albums. Although his Album has been a huge success (just as the singles were), he still has a very strong attitude towards being grounded.
Craig's success gives us all hope that if we work hard, dream about what we want to achieve, believe in ourselves and create opportunities, there is hope of succeeding, whether it be music, school or life!
