THE PRINCE OF PRANK TAKES ON THE MUSIC BIZ!

Commences Monday, June 24 at 8.30pm

From Monday, June 24 at 8.30pm SBS Television presents the ten-part series John Safran's Music Jamboree. The supercharged and funny guy whose TV exploits have included streaking through the streets of Jerusalem and confronting Ray Martin across his garbage bin is back - to share his peculiar passion for the wild, wild world of contemporary music.

John Safran's Music Jamboree reveals all - the drum, the dirt and the bittersweet memories. Here are the classics and forgotten flops, stories of gigs and groupies, guns, drugs, deals and egos and the scams and scandals brought to light by his very own music "mole", not to mention the practical advice on how to make it in the savage world of rock 'n' roll.

Who got kicked off their record label for being a bad arse? Whose tacky album cover got pulled on September 11? Why did Murdoch's Mushroom deal go sour? Who wanted to boycott the music industry awards? Did US Drug Enforcement really want to ban glow sticks? Do Australian video directors and TV popstars get financially screwed? Who the hell are the Newsboys and how could they possible outearn Silverchair and AC/DC? Did Slipknot trash a Melbourne venue and start spanking the guests?

John answers questions you didn't know needed asking - which music will bring you out of a coma, which radio shock jock fell victim to a club drug prank, what Eminem did for his community service, how Beck got into scientology and Prince became a Jehovah's Witness and why no one on earth is uglier than Joey Fatone. Want to get into an elite nightclub, your band to get a rave review, your video to get on TV? John tells all.

And of course there is the music - completely original performances by Magic Dirt, Frenzal Rhomb, Mental As Anything, Titanics, TISM, Sonic Animation, Ross Wilson and Scandal'us. And an all-singing, all-dancing John pays homage to his favourite artists, premieres his boy band hit "Jewtown" and revives unplugged his 90s hip hop hit "Melbourne Tram". Celebrity appearances include Insane Clown Posse's Violent J, The Beastie Boys' Mixmaster Mike, Ozzy Osbourne, Derryn Hinch, Shaun Micallef, Simon Crean, Rabbi Gronar, Kate Ceberano's mum and John Safran's dad.

John Safran's Music Jamboree's executive producer is Richard Lowenstein whose films include "He Died With A Felafel in his Hand", "Dogs in Space" and "Strikebound". He has also created music videos for INXS, U2, Hunters & Collectors, Cold Chisel, Tim Finn, Crowded House and Michael Hutchence.
