Savage Garden

Savage Garden

The Australian-bred band Savage Garden consists of two genuine and talented guys sharing the same dream - the music they make. Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones met in 1993 after Daniel placed an advertisement in the paper seeking a 'serious lead vocalist'. The result was a cover band that lasted for eighteen months.

It was only when Darren found singing other people's songs unfulfilling that the pair set about writing for themselves. This process involved spending twelve months in a home studio where they wrote songs and recorded. They sent out over 150 demos, under the band name 'Bliss' to record companies and publishers all over the country. The boys were met with rejection one after the other but it only took one successful response to get the boys started on the road to success.

Veteran artist manager, John Woodruff, immediately spotted the band's global potential. They were consequently offered a management deal and a record contract with Roadshow/Warner Music and Savage Garden was born. The name Savage Garden was plucked from an Anne Rice novel. In 1995 they commenced recording their first album which took eight months to complete.

Their self-titled debut album boasts multi-platinum success thanks to the international hit singles, "I Want You", "To the Moon and Back", and "Truly, Madly, Deeply". The track "I Want You" was the biggest selling Australian single for 1996 and the next two songs following that also had Number One successes.

Having conquered Australia's music market, Savage Garden set their sights on international success. After three US labels bidded for the band, Columbia Records signed Savage Garden to a worldwide deal (excluding Australia and New Zealand). Before its label release, "I Want You", also their first single in the US, was already getting airplay on as many as fifty US stations. Their self-titled debut album chalked up worldwide sales of eleven million. Their second album is not far behind.

Their new album titled "Affirmation" explores love, lost love, despair, loneliness and the hope and faith that come from learning to channel emotions into lessons learned. The album's true focus is on the silver lining. The album's first single "I Knew I Loved You" is a sweet ballad that deals with the joy of finding true love. This is followed by singles "The Animal Song", "Affirmation" and their latest offering "Crash and Burn".

With a steely determination to succeed and undeniable talent, the duo that are Savage Garden, are destined for bigger and better things.
