MARY J BLIGE DOING IT FOR THE KIDS
Superstar Mary J. Blige touches the hearts of the nation with her brand new single 'No More Drama', the theme song for the 2002 Kids Help Line Radiothon which is to be conducted on Austereo's National Today Network from 6:00am Friday June 14 through to Sunday June 16.
Kids Help Line is Australia's only free 24 hour anonymous and confidential telephone and web counselling service for 5-18 year olds. 10,000 kids from across Australia contact Kids Help Line each week. The Kids Help Line Radiothon aims to raise $1 million through donations from the Radiothon, the Kids Help Line Online Auction & Website and a Celebrity Gala Event. All proceeds will go towards helping 120,000 Australian kids.
'No More Drama', released on June 3rd, is the third single taken from her Grammy nominated album 'No More Drama', featuring 2 remixes and an enhanced video clip, this will definitely be another enormous hit for this hip-hop sensation.
"The way I feel I can make a difference in the young people's lives, in the generations to come, is to be an example, you know. I'm not perfect, you know, I kind of walk my talk, the things I speak about, the things I sing about. I try to make sure that they really have taken place, or they will take place.
And I make sure they understand that I understand your struggle. I understand, I've been there. I know how it feels to want to say something, and everybody makes you feel like you can't, and how it feels for people too, just to make sure they understand their self-worth, and that life is not terrible, you know, it's not terrible, but it could get better" (Mary J. Blige)
Happy but also attuned to others. Mary's charity work is as much a part of her healing process and her journey as the music she creates. She is seen in anti-drug public service announcements, has worked with various education groups and has helped raise monies for people with AIDS. Mary received the Rolling Stone Do Something Award for her humanitarian work and she was recently honoured with a lifetime service award by 100 Black Men. She continues as the spokeswoman for MAC's Viva Glam III with all proceeds from the lipstick earmarked to AIDS education and research and her tireless work for People with Aids included an appearance at the United Nation's AIDS Awareness Day fundraiser.
Universal Music Australia & Mary J Blige will generously be making a huge contribution to the Radiothon, with proceeds from the single donated to Kids Help Line.
