I & J Toastie

I & J Toastie
A new, freshly toasted hot snack boasting a variety of exciting and tasty fillings is set to become the hottest food item in Australian school canteens. The I&J Toastie, developed by Simplot Australia, is the first new snack food product to be designed in accordance with nutritional guidelines for school canteens, whilst delivering great flavour and taste sensation.

Alarming statistics show 56% of Australian adults and 27% of all children and adolescents are considered to be overweight or obese. This is largely attributed to the increased consumption of snacks and energy dense foods with low nutritional value and high levels of saturated fat and salt.

As canteens across the country face increasing pressure to offer healthier food options, the I&J Toastie offers the perfect solution. Made using quality ingredients and toasted on-premise in a matter of minutes, the I&J Toastie is an affordable healthy 'hot food' option that delivers great flavour combined with nutritional benefits.

In addition to an extremely positive response from canteens and students, the I&J Toastie also has the backing of leading dietitian and media identity, Geraldine Georgeou. "Given the alarming increase in obesity rates among young Australians and the unhealthy temptations on many school canteen menus, the I&J Toastie represents an extremely positive step forward for school students and will hopefully set the trend for future product innovation in this area".

Two years in the making and developed by a leading chef, the I&J Toastie will initially be available in three popular flavours; Ham, Cheese & Tomato; Barbeque Chicken; and Spinach & Ricotta, with additional flavours to follow.

"We wanted to create a product that was appealing and offered students something new, whilst still meeting all the essential health and nutritional requirements," said David White, Executive Chef at Simplot Australia and creator of the I&J Toastie.

"We couldn't just assume we knew what students would like so we asked them directly and listened to what they told us. We conducted extensive testing on the I&J Toastie and the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with students rating the product as tasty, modern and completely unique. Students love the I&J Toastie because it is hassle free, tastes great, and won't break the bank."

The I&J Toastie meets the nutritional guidelines set down by the NSW School Canteen Association (NSWSCA) Healthy Kids program and the Federation of Canteens in Schools (FOCiS) StarChoice program.

Now available to school Canteens with a RRP $2.30.
